Die Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt Berlin startet zum 2. Mal die europaweite Ausschreibung zum „Urban Intervention Award Berlin“. Erstmals wird der Preis in Kooperation mit der Deutsche Wohnen AG vergeben und damit auch um den „Urban Living Award“ erweitert.

Die Deutsche Wohnen AG stiftet erstmals das Preisgeld in Höhe von jeweils € 3.000,- für die Gewinner der zwei Kategorien des Urban Intervention Award Berlin: „Build“ and „Temporary“ und den Gewinner des „Urban Living Award“. Interessierte Architekten und Architektinnen können ihre Arbeiten bis zum 24. August 2013 (Datum des Poststempels) bei unten stehender Adresse einreichen.
For the second time, the Berlin Senate Department of Urban Development and the Environment is opening a Europe-wide call for projects for the Urban Intervention Award Berlin. For the first time, this prize is being offered in collaboration with Deutsche Wohnen AG and will for this reason be expanded to include the new Urban Living Award.

This year, for the first time, Deutsche Wohnen AG will award prize money in the amount of €3,000 to the winners of the two categories in the Urban Intervention Award Berlin, ‘Build’ and ‘Temporary’, as well as the winner of the Urban Living Award. Interested architects can submit their work by 24th August 2013 (postmarked by this date) to the following address:

Ziel des „Urban Intervention Award Berlin“ und des „Urban Living Award“ ist es, maßgeblich zur Verbesserung der Lebensqualität im urbanen Umfeld beizutragen und Prozesse des städtischen Miteinanders zu stimulieren. Die Auszeichnungen würdigen Projekte, die einen substantiellen Beitrag zur Neudefinition, Wiederbelebung und Aufwertung innerstädtischer Quartiere leisten und Vorbildcharakter haben. Das gilt für die Umwandlung und Umnutzung alter Bausubstanz, für Neubauten und temporäre Projekte.
Dazu die Senatsbaudirektorin Regula Lüscher:
„Mit dem Urban Intervention Award Berlin 2013 und dem Urban Living Award 2013 wollen wir Akteure der Stadt auszeichnen, die durch Eigeninitiative, Kooperation, interessante Nutzungskonzepte und exzellente Gestaltung stadtentwicklungspolitische Impulse setzen. Berlin besitzt europaweit eine Vorreiterrolle, wenn es darum geht, mit un konventionellen kreativen und künstlerischen Strategien urbane Prozesse in Bewegung zu setzen. Die Vergabe von Preisen ist durch die beispielgebende Wirkung ein bewährtes Instrument zur Qualifizierung der Baukultur.“
Der Vorstandsvorsitzende der Deutsche Wohnen AG, Michael Zahn, die sowohl die Preise für den Urban Intervention Award als auch für den Urban Living Award stiftet, begründet das Engagement des Unternehmens:
„Die Verbundenheit mit dem Standort Berlin, mit Baukultur und Architekturgeschichte sowie der Wille auch bei aktuellen, zukunftsorientierten innerstädtischen Prozessen die eigene Kompetenz zum Thema „Wohnen“ einzubringen und sie an die jungen und innovativen Teilnehmer dieser europaweiten Baukulturwettbewerbe weiterzugeben, sind unsere Motive, diese Preise zu unterstützen.
The goal of the Urban Intervention Award Berlin and the Urban Living Award is to contribute significantly to the improvement of the qual ity of life in the urban environment and to stimulate processes of urban cooperation. The prizes recognise exemplary projects that contribute substantially to newly defining, revitalising and upgrading inner-city neighbourhoods. The transformation and conversion of existing structures, new build and temporary projects are all valid for entry.
Berlin Director of Urban Development Regula Lüscher commented:
« With the Urban Intervention Award Berlin 2013 and the Urban Living Award 2013, we wish to recognise urban stakeholders who provide impetus for urban development through their own initiative, cooperation, interesting usage concepts and excellent design. Berlin is a pioneer in Europe when it comes to setting urban processes in motion by means of unconventional creative and artistic strategies. By setting an example, the awarding of prizes is a proven instrument for raising standards within Baukultur (building culture). »
Michael Zahn, CEO of Deutsche W ohnen AG, which has donated the prize fund for both the Urban Intervention Award as well as the Urban Living Award, explains the commitment of his company to the awards:
« Our bond with Berlin, our concern with building culture and architectural history, and our desire to share our own competence in the field of « living » to advance current forward-looking inner-city processes are the sources of our motivation in supporting these awards. We are happy to pass this knowledge on to the young and innovative participants of this Europe-wide building culture competition. »
