Créer une passerelle entre l’Université et le monde professionnel pour les étudiants et les diplômés – tel est l’objectif de plusieurs initiatives de l’Université du Luxembourg pour entamer le semestre d’hiver. L’Université organisera ainsi cet automne un nouveau salon du recrutement baptisé « unicareers.lu » sous le patronage des Ministères du Travail, de l’Economie et de l’Enseignement supérieur. Ce salon se tiendra le vendredi 26 septembre, de 10 h à 17 h. Le lieu de la manifestation est également changé : il s’agira du centre LuxCongrès près de la Philharmonie. (…)
Sondage : neuf diplômés sur dix trouvent un emploi ou une place à l’université dans les six mois
A l’occasion du salon du recrutement, l’Université a également présenté son premier sondage complet sur les diplômés auquel près de 520 titulaires d’un diplôme de Bachelor ou de Master ont participé. Six mois après avoir quitté l’université en 2012/2013, 50 % ont trouvé un emploi, 39 % ont poursuivi leurs études et seulement 11 % étaient sans occupation ou avaient une autre activité à ce moment. Selon Eric Tschirhart, c’est un excellent résultat : « L’Université produit des collaborateurs recherchés par notre économie. »

Umfrage: neun von zehn Absolventen finden binnen sechs Monaten Arbeit oder Studienplatz
Anlässlich der Jobmesse stellte die Universität auch ihre erste komplette Absolventenumfrage vor, an der rund 520 Bachelor- und Masterabsolventen teilnahmen. Sechs Monate nach dem Universitätsabschluss 2012/2013 hatten demnach 50 Prozent eine Arbeit gefunden, 39 Prozent studierten weiter und nur elf Prozent waren zu dem Zeitpunkt ohne Beschäftigung oder gingen einer anderen Aktivität nach. Laut Eric Tschirhart ein sehr erfreuliches Ergebnis: „Die Universität produziert Mitarbeiter, wie sie unsere Wirtschaft braucht.“

Bridging the gap between university and work for students and graduates is the goal of several initiatives launched by the University of Luxembourg at the start of the winter semester. As part of this, the university is organising a new job fair entitled « unicareers.lu » this autumn under the patronage of the Ministry of Employment, Economy and Higher Education. The event will take place between 10 am and 5 pm on Friday 26 September. Its venue, the LuxCongrès conference centre near the Luxembourg Philharmonie, is also new.
The event’s new organiser, Luxembourg company Moovijob has enlisted 80 well-known companies and institutions as exhibitors, which is 30 more than last year. These firms represent Luxembourg’s most important sectors: information technology, corporate finance and auditing, law, logistics, insurance, trade and distribution, R&D and industry. The event will also feature company presentations and a round table discussion on youth employment.
As in previous years, the fair is open to all students and graduates throughout the Greater Region. Young visitors can introduce themselves to companies at the fair and apply for placements, theses, temporary contracts and their first permanent positions. Compared to conventional written applications, the fair offers applicants the advantage of introducing themselves directly in person and gaining important experience. « ‘unicareers.lu’ is a unique springboard for students looking for jobs », says Eric Tschirhart, the university’s Vice-President for Academic Affairs. He goes on to state that the university’s goal is to further improve students’ employability and further strengthen partnerships with local companies.
« Campus Carrières », the university’s careers service is therefore launching a supplementary certificate for uni.lu students this autumn. Those who have attended at least six different advanced training courses on job application techniques and professional soft skills such as presentation techniques, writing skills and teamwork will get a « Pass Carrières » in addition to their degree. The online platform www.job4students.uni.lu, on which employers can post placement and job vacancies for students, has also been completely overhauled.
Poll: nine out of ten graduates find a job or university place within six months
At the job fair, the university also presented the results its first full graduate poll in which 520 bachelor’s and master’s graduates took part. This showed that within six months of the 2012/2013 graduations, 50% had found a job, 39% continued their studies and only 11% were unoccupied at that time or engaged in other activities. In Eric Tschirhart’s view, this is a very pleasing result: « The university is producing the workers that our economy needs. »
